East Riding Photo Competition Deadline draws near

THE DEADLINE for the Capturing the East Riding Photography Competition is on Friday, 30th September 2011, with residents urged not to miss the opportunity to show off their creative talent and be in with the chance of winning a great prize. 

Entries have been coming in steadily and are being uploaded to the online gallery of the competition website.

The competition is open to all amateur photographers. Eligible photos must have been taken in the East Riding on or after 1 October 2009. They should be a minimum of 300 dpi or 5 MB. Full details are available on the website. 

After the competition closes, entries will be judged and the winners exhibited at the Beverley Art Gallery in 2012. 

Organised by the East Riding Cultural Partnership, the competition has received generous support from a host of partners: East Riding of Yorkshire Council, arvato, Burton Agnes Hall, Coast, Wolds, Wetlands and Waterways LEADER Programme, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, National Centre for Early Music, Pocklington Arts Society, Press Association, Stewart’s Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum and South Cliff Caravan Park.

Village SOS Competition Awards

VILLAGE SOS, an initiative from the Big Lottery Fund and the BBC, is running a competition which will make awards of between £10,000 and £30,000 to support community enterprise in villages (with populations of less than 3,000).

The competition seeks to give money to enterprising ideas that will use the skills of local people and the area’s natural resources, land and buildings. Community enterprises are businesses that are owned and run by villagers themselves, such as village shops and pubs.

Village SOS highlight the fact that there are around 260 community-owned village shops currently thriving. They are distinguishable from private-sector enterprises by the fact that they re-invest any profits back into the community.

Coast, Sea and Sky Photography Competition

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHERS are being invited to submit entries for Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ Coast, Sea and Sky Competition, which is now in its third year.

The theme for the competition is open to personal interpretation of the coast, sea and sky, but entries must have the natural world of East Yorkshire at heart.

The winning photograph in each category will receive a professionally mounted print supplied by Ben Walker of Gallerina Studios.

Full details of the competition, including a set of rules and an application form, are available as a download from the website. The closing date for the competition is Friday, 1 July  Monday 1st August.

East Riding Photography Competition

IF YOU OR YOUR GROUP would like to participate in a major competition for amateur photographers, the East Riding Cultural Partnership has the perfect opportunity for you.

The Cultural Partnership is working with local people to organise contests as part of the ‘Capturing the East Riding’ photography competition.

Starting in October, contests will run until September 2011, when groups will select their top entries. Local winners will then be entered into an East Riding-wide competition, culminating in an exhibition at the Beverley Art Gallery in 2012.

Expressions of interest are invited from any group, arts based or otherwise, whose members have an interest in photographing what the East Riding means to them.

Hilary Saynor, chair of the East Riding Cultural Partnership, said:

“I see this competition as a chance for everyone to capture their impressions of life in East Yorkshire. Remember, groups don’t need to have an arts focus to participate. For example, a sports club could run a contest focused on getting the best action shots from the season. Or maybe your work colleagues would like to form a group and join in for a little competitive fun. The aim of the project is to encourage people of all backgrounds to grab their cameras and phones and get snapping.”
