THE EAST RIDING COUNCIL'S Anti Social Behaviour Team is inviting residents to discuss any problems they maybe having with anti social behaviour.

Monthly sessions are being scheduled for Hornsea and Withernsea Customer Services. But generally residents with concerns are encouraged to book one-to-one appointments with officers at their local Customer Service Centres.

Examples of anti-social behaviour that may concern you:

Harassment of residents or passersby
Verbal abuse
Criminal damage
Vandalism
Noise nusiance
Writing graffiti
Engaging in threatening behaviour in large groups
Racial abuse
Smoking or drinking alcohol while under age
Substance misuse
Joyriding
Begging
Prostitution
Kerb crawling
Throwing missiles
Assault
Vehicle crime

FREE Electric Blanket Safety Checks in Preston and Hornsea

38% of Electric Blankets fail safety test!

Last year more than 429 electric blankets were tested as part of the East Riding Council’s continuing programme of electric blanket safety checks. In total 38 per cent of the blankets failed the safety test and were found to be dangerous to use.

National statistics show that old and unsafe electric blankets cause more than 5,000 fires each year. More than half of all electric blankets tested nationally are found to be unsafe. Electric blankets which are over 10 years old do not have the safety features of modern blankets. Serious defects can also develop when blankets are not used in accordance with the instructions.

The East Riding Council and Humberside Fire and Rescue are holding a series of Electric Blanket Safety Checks. The FREE testing sessions in Holderness will be held on Tuesday, 14 September at Hornsea Floral Hall in the morning and Preston Fire Station, Station Road, Preston in the afternoon.

Appointments must be made for any blankets which will be brought to the event, and are available on a first-come first-served basis. It takes six minutes to check each blanket. Note: Those who arrive without an appointment for a blanket will be disappointed as there will not be time to take extra blankets.

Public in Yorkshire and Humberside to have say in how young offenders are punished

COMMUNITIES IN YORKSHIRE AND HUMBERSIDE affected by crime are to get a say in how young people who offend are punished.

Making Good gives local people the chance to have their say on how young people convicted of offending should be held to account for their crimes. The scheme aims to help offenders understand the impact their actions have had on local communities.

The scheme has been developed by the Youth Justice Board of England and Wales and is being launched in Yorkshire and Humberside before being rolled out nationally.

Making Good calls on the public to suggest reparation work they would like to see carried out in their area by visiting the Making Good website. Suggestions will be welcome until June 18 2010.

All reparation work is unpaid and will be overseen by the local Youth Offending Team.

Ideas for work might range from litter picking, to clearing public spaces to decorating community centres or helping with local charitable groups. Suggestions for work must be meaningful and beneficial to the local community and to young offenders and not take paid work away from others. Work should be of a not-for-profit nature.

Community Safety Week theme a Turn on or Turn off

COMMUNITY SAFETY was the theme of last week's Hedon Blog postings.
The idea was to concentrate on one particular type of article and see if readers found them interesting - or a turn-off!

The week began on Monday 8th February with a post about the benefits of reporting problems in an area via Community Walkabouts.

Tuesday covered the launch of the Not Just Noise website which is aimed at creative young people and sponsored by Humberside Police. The Safer Internet Day initiative also featured on Tuesday. Both these items included videos to watch.

The news that the Environment Agency was to expand its Flood Warning Service was Wednesday's contribution. Wednesday also saw the Blog post about the timely  Government Training Events on Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour that are taking place over the next few weeks.

The Humberside Police Authority staged its Police and Partners Community Forum in Hedon on Wednesday and this was reported the day after.

The series ended on Saturday with a notice about East Riding Council's publishing of its Emergency Planning Guide "Get ready for the unexpected".

So did you find the series of use? The statistics show that the average daily views were slightly up on the previous week but lower than the week before.

Statistics of course don't tell the whole story. Comments to the website are the lifeblood of any blog - and there was a dearth of comments during last week!
