New Flood Warning symbols
THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY is making changes to its Flood Warning service. The changes are expected to take place on 30th November and will see the use of new flood symbols and alert messages.
The changes have been implemented by the Agency in order to make their messages more easily understandable and simplify the guidance given during flood alerts.
- Flood alert - will indicate that flooding is possible and that you need to be prepared.
- Flood warning - will indicate that flooding is expected and that you should take immediate action. You should take action when a flood warning is issued and not wait for a severe flood warning.
- Severe flood warning - will tell people that there is severe flooding and danger to life. These will be issued only when flooding is posing significant risk to life or disruption to communities.
The new symbols are explained by the Environment Agency on its website at New flood warning codes and you can also find information on Being prepared for flooding and specifically on signing up to Flood Warnings Direct.
