Think again about top pension payout urges MP
GRAHAM STUART MP is asking the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to think again about a £364,205 discretionary retirement package payment to out-going corporate resources director Sue Lockwood. The council cabinet recently gave its support to the bonus payment. But the Beverley and Holderness MP has welcomed news that councillors will scrutinise the decision at a committee meeting being held today.

Ms Lockwood’s post is expected to be advertised very soon with similar terms and conditions and salary package.

“I think it is right this matter should be called in. I wonder how the council, in the current economic climate, can justify paying this sort of cash on a discretionary basis. Being called in will mean all councillors have a chance to examine their consciences, do the right thing and concentrate limited resources on the provision of front line services.”Meanwhile the Yorkshire Post has claimed that the MP has reacted angrily to attempts by the East Riding Council to find out who leaked the information to him about the £364,205 discretionary payment. Under council rules the information should have remained private as it related to the terms and conditions of an employee.
