East Riding Conservatives to be prevented from standing for Party in next local elections
THE BBC IS REPORTING that ten leading Councillors in the East Riding of Yorkshire are to be barred from standing for their Conservative Party in the next elections in May 2011. It is believed that this includes Council leader Stephen Parnaby (pictured).
The BBC believes that the move has been taken by Conservative Head Quarters in efforts to disassociate the Party from those seen to have been involved in supporting "fat-cat" council salaries.
The Government is involved in measures to bring transparency to town halls. They have demanded that local councils publish information on every item of expenditure over £500 and every town hall salary over £60,000.
