EAST RIDING LSP SEEKS BUSINESS SECTOR REPRESENTATIVE

East Riding Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is seeking to appoint a business sector representative to its board. This might be an opportunity for a Holderness based business representative to get involved with this key strategic body.

The LSP was established in 2001 and is responsible for the production and delivery of the East Riding Sustainable Community Strategy.

Current membership of the LSP Board includes East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Humberside Police, NHS East Riding, Humberside Probation Trust, Business Link Yorkshire, Bishop Burton College, East Riding Voluntary Action Service and Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council.

The role of the business sector representative on the LSP Board is to provide a private sector perspective on the work of the partnership.  Nominations are sought from all sections of the business community.  Whilst an understanding of the role and remit of LSPs is helpful, successful candidates will be provided with an induction.  Interested candidates are able to observe the next meeting of the LSP Board which is taking place on Thursday 15th July at County Hall, Beverley at 2pm.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and chairman of East Riding Local Strategic Partnership, said:
“We want the business sector representative to provide an independent and critical perspective.  Given the changing environment for the public sector, having a business person to be comment constructively on the development of public services is really important.”
Anybody interested in nominating themselves to become a business sector representative of the LSP Board should send a CV and covering letter outlining their business, community and personal interests.  Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to interview.

The position is not salaried and no out of pocket expenses or travel can be claimed.  The LSP Board meets a minimum of six times each year and the LSP occasionally holds additional meetings and workshops.  There is also an annual LSP conference held each November.

Please send your CV and covering letter to Carl Duck, East Riding LSP manager, County Hall, Beverley, HU17 9BA or email carl.duck@eastriding.gov.uk by midday on 19 July 2010  It is proposed that interview will take place w/c 2 August 2010.  If you would like to observe the LSP Board meeting, taking place on 15 July please contact Carl on 01482 391424.
