East Riding Schools - Wear Red for Heart Campaign

HUNDREDS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN will be wearing red on Friday, 18 February as primary schools across the East Riding help to save lives by raising money to support the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Red for Heart campaign.

Primary schools are signing up to take part in Wear Red Day, being celebrated on Friday, 18 February. The Road Safety Team have been encouraging schools to get involved as a fun way to end their ‘Healthy Heart Week’, 14 to 18 February; a week where pupils will be encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

On Friday, 18 February pupils at participating schools will be encouraged to wear red and make a small donation to the British Heart Foundation. Pupils will learn about heart health assemblies and other activities.

The British Heart Foundation is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and by providing vital information.

Jackie Skeel, head of national campaigns at the British Heart Foundation, said: “Thank you to the schools in the East Riding for going Red for Heart, with their support we can continue our vital life saving work and continue the fight against the UK’s biggest killer. 2011 is an extra special year for the BHF as it’s our 50th birthday, so there’s never been a better time to join the celebrations and get involved. As long as it is red anything goes.”
