Will new EYi Party stand in Holderness?
EAST YORKSHIRE INDEPENDENTS have announced their first candidates and re-launched their website ready for the local East Riding Council Elections on May 5th 2011.
The new East Yorkshire Independents Party (EYi), who say that they want local government that is "free from mainstream party political influence", have announced their first candidates via its Twitter account. Eleven candidates will be standing in at least six different areas of the East Riding - but so far there are no candidates for the new party declared in Holderness. However, the party says it is actively seeking new members and candidates.
There are currently three councillors in the Holderness area who sit as Independents (not EYi) and at least one recently declared candidate has announced he will be standing on the Independent ticket in South West Holderness. This tradition of Independent candidates standing and being elected in the Holderness area, does perhaps bode well for EYi - but it remains to be seen whether any local candidates for the new party will actually step forward.
