Elections 2011 in HU12

More than one vote on May 5th!
CAMPAIGNING IN ELECTIONS 2011 started early today with the announcement on the Hedon Blog that 18 year old Adam Lonsdale intends to stand as an Independent candidate for the East Riding Council.

The official notice of the election will not be served until Friday 25th March which is when official nominations can be made. Nominations close at noon on Monday, 4th April. Polling day is Thursday 5th May 2011.

But it's not just the East Riding Council elections on 5th May. The same Thursday will see elections to Hedon Town Council, Paull and Preston Parish Councils.

The same date will also see the Referendum on the voting system for United Kingdom parliamentary elections. Voters will be asked to state 'Yes' or 'No' to the following question:
At present, the UK uses the ‘first past the post’ system to elect MPs to the House of Commons. Should the ‘alternative vote’ system be used instead?
National Campaigns for each option have already started.

HU12 hopes to cover the elections and referendum in some detail and asks candidates, their agents and other campaigners to add hu12@gmx.com to your media e-mailing lists.

To find out more about Elections 2011 see the East Riding Council website or visit The Electoral Commission.
