Business Start-Up Agency closing down regional service.

THE GOVERNMENT'S OFFICIAL website Directgov published an article on New Year's Day aimed at encouraging those thinking of starting a business to use the services of Business Link.

"Do you have what it takes to set up a new business or become self-employed? Find out what the day-to-day realities are and what skills and qualities you’ll need. Visit Businesslink.gov.uk for practical information and guidance on researching and developing your ideas."
Readers are encouraged that the New Year could bring a fresh start as they develop their business idea for 2011. However, there is a negative side to this New Year message of optimism. It was reported today on Yorkshire's TheBusinessDesk.Com that regional Business Link advice services will in fact close by next November! Regional services will be replaced by new website services and an enhanced call-centre.

As part of its overhaul of business support services, the Government is to launch a New Enterprise Allowance Scheme which will aim to help create up to 40,000 new businesses by 2013 including 10,000 new social enterprises. People claiming unemployment benefits for more than six months will be offered up to £2,000 of financial support – including a start-up loan and a weekly allowance – as well as advice from a mentor.
