Car parking charges in Hedon deferred
A CONTROVERSIAL REVIEW OF CAR PARKING CHARGES has recommended that any charges in Hedon be deferred until the building of a new Park and Ride facility to the west of the town.
The East Riding Council Panel set up to review car parking charges initially submitted proposals to implement charges at three of the four Hedon car parks. However, the Report published today recommends:
...that consideration of implementing car parking charges at Hedon be deferred until the implementation of the proposed Park and Ride scheme by Hull City Council, or a decision has been made not to proceed with a Park and Ride scheme."The Park and Ride facility at the site of the old Hedon aerodrome has been proposed by Hull City Council who have submitted an outline planning application to the East Riding Council. If successful in obtaining planning permission then the facility is expected to become operational in 2011.
The Hedon Park and Ride facility has been proposed primarily to reduce congestion and travel issues in Hull. However there may be some benefits to Hedon in improving car parking provision and removing town centre traffic although these have yet to be formally assessed.
